SAFETY DIRECTOR

We are seeking to hire a full time Safety Director to lead & manage our company safety program, in order to develop the desired safety culture and achieve safety objectives.  This position will be responsible for development and execution of safety policies and procedures for the entire workforce.  Vaughn Industries offers great wages and a full benefit package to all full time employees!  Our culture is Safety Quality & Customer Satisfaction.

Requirements of a Safety Director:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business or safety, or equivalent amount of experience
  • 10 years of construction experience preferred
  • 30 hour OSHA Construction Safety
  • CUSP, CHST or other accredited professional safety designation, OSHA 500 strongly desired
  • Experience working with safety Database websites (ISNetWorld, Avetta, BROWZ, etc.), learning management systems, and social media platforms preferred
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuing education in safety training in the following competencies: excavation, rigging, fall protection, scaffolding, hazmat, confined space, air quality, personal protection equipment/clothing, 70E, and 1910.269
  • Exceptional communication, organization, leadership & human relations skills
  • Demonstrated strengths in problem solving, planning, coordinating initiatives, and incident investigation
  • Excellent computer skills (excel, outlook, word, mobile apps)
  • Must be willing to Travel
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Familiar with OSHA’s VPP Program preferred

Duties will include:

  • Develop and maintain company safety program, policies, & procedures
  • Lead company safety program orientation
  • Coordinate emergency safety plans and procedures, including evacuation, rescue, hazmat records, and fire suppression
  • Plan and implement safety training
  • Assess effectiveness of safety program activities, policies, and procedures, and implement changes to improve results and achieve objectives
  • Lead communication activities which promote and raise awareness of desired culture, continued improvement, and achievements
  • Provide periodic reports to management and staff
  • Manage safety incentive program
  • Assist with developing project specific safety orientation, plans, and training
  • Coordinate subcontractor preapproval process
  • Review plans and provide safety and risk counsel to bid/proposal teams
  • Manage safety inspection activities
  • Ensure required inspection data is collected and submitted
  • Analyze inspection and incident information to identify causes and trends—develop preventative or corrective practices
  • Ensure required information is collected and submitted
  • Lead investigation of incidents, near misses, and complaints regarding unsafe or unhealthful working conditions or practices
  • Maintain knowledge of current OSHA and industry standards, regulations, and construction safety practices/policies
  • Represent the company with OSHA and customers
  • Lead or participate in Safety Committee or other risk/safety related committees
  • Manage safety staff and/or outsourced resources to insure implementation of safety program
  • Maintain and administer Vaughn Industries VPP (Voluntary Protection Program)
  • Educate and train company management, staff, and business partners about the company safety program and their respective responsibilities

Wages and Benefits:

  • Compensation package includes salary range of $90,000 – $120,000
