Celebrating Women in Construction Week at Vaughn Industries

Women in Construction Week gives us a chance to pause and recognize the people who help move our work forward every day.

At Vaughn Industries, those contributions come from women across the company – in the field, in operations, in coordination roles, and in the offices supporting projects from start to finish.

Throughout the week, we asked several women across our organization to share their perspectives on their work, what they’ve learned along the way, and what helps them succeed in construction.

Their responses revealed something powerful: while their roles may look different, the mindset they bring to the work is remarkably similar.

Growth Starts with Mindset

When asked what helps them grow in the construction industry, the answer came back again and again: mindset.

Ashley, a Transmission & Distribution Estimator, put it simply:

“Mindset is everything. You have to want growth for yourself and be willing to put in the work.”

Construction is an industry built on learning – learning from the people around you, learning from experience, and constantly building new skills. That mindset of curiosity and determination is what allows individuals and teams to keep improving over time.

Pride in the Work

Not every role in construction is loud.
Not every contribution is visible.

But pride in the work shows up every day.

For Janice, a Substation Operations Assistant, the pride comes from the team and the environment around her.

“Everything. I’m very appreciative of Vaughn Industries and the group I work with.”

That pride in the people around you is part of what keeps projects moving forward and teams working together.

The Power of Behind-the-Scenes Work

Many of the roles that keep construction projects moving happen long before the first piece of equipment arrives on a jobsite and long after the work is complete.

Madison, a Safety Coordinator with Vaughn Industries for more than nine years, works behind the scenes making sure the details align and the “why” behind the work is clearly understood before it reaches the field.

Her advice is simple but powerful:

Ask questions. Keep learning. Stay open to new challenges.

Those principles help build stronger projects and stronger careers.

The Support Systems That Keep Projects Moving

Construction doesn’t move forward by chance.
It moves forward because the right support systems are in place.

From apprenticeship development to project cost tracking, many roles help guide projects through every stage of their lifecycle.

Gracie, who helps coordinate the apprenticeship program, sees firsthand how much planning goes into developing the next generation of skilled trades.

“People might not realize how much coordination and detail goes into running an apprenticeship program smoothly.”

Carrie, a Job Cost Clerk, helps support projects from beginning to end.

“My role supports projects from beginning to end — assisting with billing, cost tracking, and helping project managers resolve issues along the way.”

These roles help create consistency, communication, and accountability across every project Vaughn Industries takes on.

Telling the Story of the Work

Construction is about building things, but it’s also about building people, opportunities, and culture.

Raechel, Vaughn Industries’ Marketing Coordinator, helps capture and share those stories.

Whether she’s on a jobsite documenting the work or in the office capturing employee milestones, her goal is the same: to showcase the people who make Vaughn Industries what it is.

As she explains:

“The projects show what we build. The people show who we are.”

By sharing those stories, the company hopes to inspire the next generation — young women, students, future apprentices, and anyone considering a path in construction.

Because sometimes all it takes is seeing someone else doing the work to realize there’s a place for you too.

Looking Ahead

This week’s stories remind us that the future of construction is built by people who show up every day ready to learn, support their teammates, and take pride in the work.

The women of Vaughn Industries represent that mindset in every role they hold.

Their work strengthens projects, supports teams, and helps create opportunities for the next generation who will carry the industry forward.

And we’re proud to celebrate them — not just this week, but every day.
